She is a past member of the South Bend Teachers Union and is currently a regional president for the Michigan Elementary & Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA).
Shabazz has also spent decades helping elect Democrats throughout Indiana and nationally. In 2008, she was the lead South Bend volunteer for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and then volunteered for Barack Obama.
She went on to work as a Regional Director for then-President Obama’s Organizing for America group helping lead a nationwide grassroots effort to pass the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Shabazz, who now serves as an elementary school principal, is also raising four children with her husband Muhammad.
As a mother, an educator, and women’s healthcare advocate, Shabazz will stand up for all St. Joseph’s County residents. She is passionate about serving her community and fighting for equal rights for everyone. Shabazz will govern with fairness and honesty and always fight for our county’s working-class families.
